A London resident recently competed in the King of the Cage, a full-contact mixed-martial arts competition held
at the Belterra Casino in Indiana on November 20th.
Scott Hope, 23, won a unanimous
decision in the lightweight division against his opponent, Josh Souder of Team Jorge Gurgel of Ohio. Hope dominated the two
five-minute rounds with stand up striking and easily avoided his opponent’s numerous submission attempts on the ground.
“He had good grappling skills,“
commented Hope, speaking admirably of his opponent, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylist, “but I was able to get out of his
holds and keep hitting him.”
Hope
is also well versed on the ground, holding black belts in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
He has also studied wrestling, Taekwondo, boxing and holds a blue belt in Shorin-Ryu Karate.
“I want to follow in the footsteps of my trainer, Bob Stines, and
compete in Pancrase in Japan,” said Hope. “It’s the next level.”
“I would like to thank my sponsor, USA Realty, and all my training
partners,” Hope added.
Hope’s
fight record is now 6-3 and he is preparing for the next King of the Cage scheduled for February.
Mr. Hope will be conducting a beginner Jiu-Jitsu seminar on Saturday,
December 11 at United Martial Arts Academy on North Main Street in London. The seminar will start at 10 a.m. and is open to
the public. Call Jeremy Patton at (606) 862-6556 for more information or visit kentuckymartialarts.com.
