Members of United Martial Arts Academy, located on North Main Street in London,
participated in the Southern Kentucky Combat League’s (SKYCL) “Rage in the Cage III” held recently in Russell
Springs, KY. Three fighters won their matches: Eddie Marsee, Jeremy Patton and Tony Scott.
Eddie Marsee, 23, traded
punches with Martin Carrier before shooting in for a double leg take-down and falling into a tight guillotine choke from Carrier’s
guard. For more than a minute, Carrier choked Marsee, but Marsee defended and managed to pull his head free. Marsee pressed
the action, pinning Carrier against the cage and striking from the top. Carrier suddenly kicked out hard, knocked Marsee to
his back and quickly stood up, nearly missing with a kick aimed at Marsee’s leg.
The crowd cheered as Marsee
got back to his feet and initiated another technical exchange of punches and leg kicks. Carrier shot in and took down Marsee,
who caught Carrier with a tight guillotine choke of his own. The round ended in a stalemate and Marsee patted his opponent
on the back as they stood and returned to their corners.
Marsee threw a big right hand at the beginning of round
two but Carrier ducked and drove Marsee into the cage. After throwing some hard knees from the clench, Carrier managed to
trip Marsee and fell into his guard. Carrier worked to pin him against the fence and stood up for a ground and pound attack.
Marsee swung his leg over Carrier’s head and applied pressure to his elbow. Carrier attempted to pull his arm free but
Marsee turned to his stomach and bridged his hips, applying even more pressure. He hyper-extended Carrier’s elbow and
forced the submission at 1:35.
The 10th fight featured the return of London’s Jeremy Patton who had not competed
in MMA since 2006 due to shoulder surgery.
Justin Stiltz rushed Patton at the sound of the horn, shoving
him into the fence. Patton reversed the position and Stiltz grabbed a headlock. Stiltz looked as though he might punch from
the headlock, but Patton reached around Stiltz’s waist and trapped his right forearm. Patton then spun hard to his right,
throwing Stiltz to the mat and landing in side control. Stiltz bridged hard from the bottom, rolling into Patton’s guard
and unleashing a flurry of punches. Patton latched onto an arm, threw his leg over Stiltz’s head and turned to his stomach,
securing a fast arm bar and the submission at 0:50 of the first round.
The 12th fight and main event featured Tony
Scott versus Lexington’s Jake Galloway. Wasting no time, Galloway stepped in with a right cross. Scott turned away an
launched a glancing left hook followed by a flurry of punches before Galloway grabbed both legs, pinned Scott to the cage
and drug him down to half guard. Galloway tried to posture up and make room for strikes but Scott maintained a bear hug and
worked his feet toward the fence. Scott kicked hard against the fence, reversed the position, fended off a guillotine and
sat up for some downward punches. Galloway applied his own bear hug and Scott struggled for several moments to break free.
Scott scooted Galloway across the mat and against the cage. After several more moments of clenching, Scott broke the hold
and stood up, raining down blows that forced Galloway to scramble for a defensible position. Galloway threatened a leg lock
that momentarily interrupted the onslaught, but Scott freed his leg and continued pummeling Galloway until he tapped. UFC
veteran Dan Christensen stepped in and stopped the contest at 2:35.
